About Fantasy Trails Online

Fantasy Trails Online is an upcoming multiplayer text-based RPG inspired by classic MUDs, except there’s an actual graphical world attached instead of a blank terminal.

Make a character, wander from room to room, search for loot, trade with vendors, and fight monsters in short combat rounds. You can type commands if you want the old-school MUD feel, or use buttons and menus if you'd rather not spend your evening memorizing verbs.

Loot is a huge part of the game. Weapons, armor, and other gear are procedurally generated with different stats and special effects, creating millions of possible items to find. You never quite know what you're going to get when something drops, and finding a weird combination that works especially well for your character is half the fun.

The other half is doing it with other people. Form a party, follow a leader through dangerous areas, and poke your head into procedural dungeon rooms looking for gear, enchantments, and whatever local boss is waiting to ruin your afternoon.

As you get stronger, you'll work your way through tougher areas and bosses, eventually gearing up to take on the final world boss.

The goal is something you can drop into for a quick fight or stick around for a longer dungeon run, always with the chance that the next thing you kill drops something ridiculous.

Controls

Fantasy Trails Online can be played with point and click controls, typed commands, or a mix of both.

Click to move around, interact with characters, fight, loot, shop, and use most game actions through buttons and menus.

If you want the old-school MUD experience, you can also type verbs and commands directly.

Chat works the same way. Just type to talk with other players or your party.

You do not need to memorize a bunch of commands to play, but they are there if you want them.

What Makes It Different

Fantasy Trails Online takes the bones of an old-school text-based RPG and puts an actual graphical world on top of it. You still have rooms, scrolling text, typed commands, multiplayer chat, parties, loot, and dungeon crawling, but you can also just click on things and play.
